Whangarei Men’s Shed has put a recent funding grant to good use. With a generous contribution from Arnold Franks in Whangarei, the Men’s shed have managed to purchase gas welding equipment for the engineering department.
This included oxy/acetylene bottles for gas welding, a Co2 bottle for the Mig welding plant and a few other welding related items. The boys have been waiting a long time to get this equipment so a big heartfelt thank you to the Arnold Franks team.
Looking for that Christmas present to self, and to add a little touch of class to your kitchen. Then perhaps one of these wheeled butchers blocks with laminated tops might just hit the mark.

The men have just completed a “mud kitchen” for the Lighthouse Play Group at Hikurangi. Its taken a wee while but the finished item should give the little ones hour of fun. Just needs the tap installed once its onsite and then there will be water everywhere.
Chaps at the Shed have been busy of late with several projects which have now been completed.
These include a dog bed platform, building a skirt and legs for a slab table for the Manaia View Kindergarten and Viking chairs for the Purau School.
The Whangarei Men’s Shed is currently running an in-shed program with students from the Whau Valley School. We are two weeks in to a six weeks program and so far have built a bird house with still a pest trap and tool tray to go before we complete the taining on the 10th September.
The program has been well receive and its as much fun for the students as it is from the chaps from the shed as we work one on one with the students.

The men have been really busy of late and the latest creation which is almost finished is a mobile coat and bag rack.
It looks pretty much like this one , but we still have to put the actual hooks in situ and paint it with a clear, water proof polyeurethane.
Since we had a good reponse to the last childrens work bench we have built another, this time for the Purua School.
This photo was taken before the metal handles were installed at the left hand end of the bench to make it easy to move around.
Play centres out there, check out this kiddies work bench that we made recently for one of the local play centres. If you would like one for you centre at a very reasonable price get in touch with us. This one has two small engineering vices supplied by the play centre group which our engineering team cleaned up and painted. These would not be included in any price we might quote.
One of the chap in the engineering workshop decided he needed a rotatable engine stand what what better way to get hold of one than to build it himself.
